Woven glass fabric set in epoxy provides strength and abrasion resistance to the outside of hulls. Once set in epoxy it is transparent so that the boat can be varnished and left its natural colour.
This high quality woven fibreglass fabric is specially coated for use with epoxy and is available in three different weights. 162 gsm is for hugging compound curves. 200 gsm provides more abrasion resistance, but is harder to apply. 300 gsm provides maximum abrasion resistance but isn't totally transparent, so is best under paint.
These fabrics are made in Europe and have a twill weave. Twill woven fabrics drape more easily than plain woven fabric, which helps when applying it to compound curves.
